I cannot call myself an ‘expert’ on much, but one thing I know for absolute certainty is that I am NOT the only one at home right now, scrolling through my smartphone aimlessly, feeling rather blue.

So, instead of sitting here like a lump, I decided to find some hidden gems on
Netflix that are definitely worth the watch at any time, but especially right now.
So here it goes, here are my top 4 Netflix picks that you TOTALLY need to give your undivided attention to.
C’mon, that can’t be too difficult at the moment, can it? I mean what else are you doing?
1. Greenhouse Academy | A Netflix Original | 4 seasons | 2017-2020 |
I was introduced to this show recently, and since starting it I have been absolutely hooked. The show centres around two American teenagers, whose mom (an astronaut) is killed when rocketing off on a NASA mission. The series then follows the teenagers as they attend “The Greenhouse Academy” a private boarding school for exceptionally talented teenagers,
in honour of their mother who was a past pupil of the school. But per usual, there is a twist. (Isn’t there always?)
The school is not everything that it seems, and in the background there are criminals hidden amongst the school population that are planning something that could be detrimental to people across the world.
I cannot recommend it enough. In my opinion, the show was slow to build up, but once you hit *that episode* you won’t be able to look away.
2. The Maze Runner | Film series | 2014
This action movie has everything I need in my life. Dylan O’Brien, a cool character dynamic, some complex dystopian plot lines and … well …
Dylan O' Brien again.
The first in a trilogy of movies, this movie sees a bunch of boys living in a massive
glade surrounded by an intricate and
unsolvable maze. They have no memory of the past, but when a new arrival bursts into the glade, they become determined to try to break past the skyscraper walls and explore the real world.
I’d give it a solid 11/10 for originality, mirroring the energy of films like The Hunger Games and Divergent.
3. I Am Not Okay With This | A Netflix Original Series | | 1 season | 2020 |
I must give it to Netflix, their original series’ are pretty darn spectacular, and the series I Am Not Okay With This is no exception.
The story centres around a bruiting teenager who discovers that she has some dark, magical powers.
As if all of that entangling obscurity wasn’t enough for her to deal with, it also focuses on her love life in the process. Don’t we all love a bit of romance really, eh? Anyways, this series is a MUST WATCH, one that you will probably have finished in a day as there are only 7 episodes.
4. Murder Mystery | A Netflix Original Film | 2019
*Note to self: Figure out how to become Jennifer Aniston.*
Alongside Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston graces us with her talent in this movie aptly entitled Murder Mystery, because it really is just a film about a murder mystery. (Zero points for originality)
It was my younger cousin who told me this film was perfect viewing for a family, because its got a truckload of comedy mixed in with that mysterious “who done it” concept that I just love to see. In my opinion, it’ll leave you guessing right until the end, and will definitely pass an evening for you and your family while you are home together, and might put an end to the bickering over the TV remote that has become the norm nowadays.
Hit me up with some more suggestions of Netflix TV that I should get watching. I love variety, and I am tremendously bored.
Stay safe, and stay HOME my friends.
Much love
